Inside the Delhi unveil of The Macallan’s newest double-century limited-edition expression

On a storm-drenched evening in Delhi, The Macallan brought its global 200th anniversary celebration to India with a dram worth writing home about—TIME: SPACE Mastery, the brand’s newest and most technically complex expression in recent memory. This wasn’t just a whisky launch. It was part art installation, part brand ritual, and part philosophical statement, playing out against the backdrop of a moody capital night that only heightened the drama.

Hosted in an immersive, deep-red venue styled with sculptural installations and projected visuals, the event was clearly designed to feel like stepping into The Macallan’s own temporal dimension. And to be fair, it succeeded. The entrance tunnel set the tone—a passage through abstraction—before opening into a dramatically lit central display, where TIME: SPACE Mastery stood encased in a sculptural vessel of 200 jagged ridges. These spikes—dramatic, tactile—were inspired by the natural defence mechanisms of a hedgehog, and served as a metaphor for protection, patience, and resilience; a few of the whiskey-maker's key tenets.

 

Even the smaller table miniatures scattered around the room were in on the message—handmade companions meant to echo natural guardianship. I found myself absently picking them up through the evening, tempted more than once to quietly slip a hedgehog or two into my blazer's inner pockets.

But the whisky was the real centrepiece. Crafted from spirit aged in 14 exceptional cask types—including sherry-seasoned European and American oak, refill casks, and ex-Bourbon barrels—TIME: SPACE Mastery is the kind of complex blend that’s easy to overthink but impossible to forget. It opens with a delicate brightness—dried fruit, soft citrus, a flicker of vanilla—and deepens quickly into richer territory: toasted oak, ginger, and warming spice. There’s a crisp clarity to it, a sense of purpose. Unlike some of The Macallan’s darker, more brooding expressions, this one feels energetic and assertive—audacious, even.

“This launch is not just about unveiling a whisky,” said Madhu Rajigani, The Macallan’s India Brand Ambassador, during the guided tasting. “It’s about preserving what matters. TIME: SPACE Mastery is a tribute to the continuum of craft—where every element has been deliberately chosen, protected, and revealed at the right moment.” That sense of curation extended to the bar, where cocktails like The Macallan Old Fashioned and Summer High Ball offered contrasting windows into the dram’s flavour profile. Both were finely tuned, but the neat pour still held its own. No gimmicks necessary.

 

Dinner followed, and like the whisky, it leaned into balance and structure. A burrata ravioli in a punchy tomato reduction and a dual-protein main of lamb and chicken with fig-brandy jus were standouts. Each dish played with contrast—much like the whisky itself—and was designed to mirror the spirit’s complexity without overwhelming it. If this was a masterclass in restraint, it was also deeply satisfying. Unlike the more theatrical Macallan showcase I attended in Mumbai, the Delhi event felt quieter, more contemplative. That isn’t to say it lacked impact. If anything, it felt truer to the spirit of the bottle being unveiled—less flash, more focus.

India’s allocation is limited to just 120 bottles, priced at approximately ₹1.5 lakh in Mumbai and ₹1.3 lakh in Delhi—making this less of a launch and more of a tightly curated reveal. But The Macallan’s decision to host an experience of this depth here speaks volumes about its growing presence in the country. And about the changing nature of luxury whisky events, too—less spectacle, more story.

 

By the end of the evening, I found myself reflecting—on whisky, sure, but also on how these shared rituals help stitch together not just brand and consumer, but self and memory. TIME: SPACE Mastery isn’t just a rare pour—it’s a reminder that when done right, storytelling, flavour, and philosophy can align into something meaningful. Even if just for a night.
