Dhanush, the star who weaves magic every time he is on the screen, is embarking on a new journey. After reigning over the Hindi and South film industry, the actor is now looking forward to his Hollywood debut. He will be sharing screen space with Chris Evan and Ryan Gosling in Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man. But all this fame came after a lot of hard work and hardship.

Since his Hollywood film is nearing its release date, an old interview of his is going viral. During his initial days, Dhanush had to face some ugly realities of the industry including an incident that made him cry. The incident took place when he was shooting for his 2003 release Kaadhal Kondein. The actor revealed how he was trolled by his own crew on the sets of the film and how it impacted him.

During an interaction with Vijay Sethupathi, Anirudh Ravichander and Sathish in 2015, the actor spoke about how people used to make fun of him. He said, “While shooting for Kaadhal Kondein, I was asked who the hero was. I pointed at someone else from the cast as I was not ready to face any more insults. However, later when they came to know that I was the hero, everyone on the set laughed at me. They said, ‘Hey look at the auto-driver, he is the hero’ and so on. I went to my car and cried out loud as I was a young boy and did not have composure back then. There is not even one person who had not trolled and body-shamed me”. He concluded that this incident made him, “Why can’t an auto driver be a hero?”

Talking about his role in The Gray Man, Dhanush is playing the role of one of the heads of the kill team that is after Court Gentry, Ryan Gosling’s character. Ana de Armas will be playing the role of Dani Miranda while Chris Evans will play Lloyd Hansen, a former member of the CIA team who is tasked with hunting down Court Gentry. The cinematic hunk-off will be backed by Russo Brothers’ new content company AGBO.

The Netflix-backed action thriller is being touted as the biggest-budget feature film in the streaming giant’s history. Apart from Dhanush, Ryan Gosling, and Ana de Armas, the film also stars Rege-Jean Page, Chris Hemsworth, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, and Julia Butters in key roles. The film will release on July 22, 2022, on Netflix .
