How Diljit Dosanjh Took On Kangana Ranaut On Twitter – And Won
Diljit Dosanjh may be in love with Kylie Jenner but…
Diljit Dosanjh may be in love with Kylie Jenner but last evening, desi Twitter was in love with Diljit Dosanjh. Kangana Ranaut, queen of online spats, got into an ugly Twitter spat with Diljit Dosanjh regarding the farmer protests. For those who are still unaware, thousands of farmers are protesting against a set of three laws passed in September by the Narendra Modi government that seeks to deregulate India’s agriculture sector. While the government claims that the laws will benefit farmers, the farmers believe that the main beneficiaries of the laws will be agricultural corporations who have the big bucks.
Ranaut went on to misidentify an elderly woman protester as Bilkis Bano, fondly known as ‘Shaheen Bagh dadi‘, and claimed that she can be hired for ‘100 rupees’. Ranaut went on to delete the tweet.
Diljit Dosanjh called Kangana Ranaut out on her false information and derogatory comments about the protesting farmers and the actress went on to call him “Karan Johar ka paltu“.
Dosanjh had shared a video interview on Twitter to clarify Ranaut’s doubts and written: “Respected Mahinder Kaur Ji. Ah Sunn La Ni With Proof @KanganaTeam. Banda Ena V Ni Anna Hona Chaida..Kush v Boli Turi jandi aa .. (Listen to this Kangana, with proof. A person should not be this blind. She (Kangana) keeps on saying anything).”
The Big Fight
“Ooo Karan Johar ke paltu, jo dadi Saheen Baag mein apni citizenship keliye protest kar rahi thi wohi Bilkis Bano dadi ji Farmers ke MSP ke liye bhi protest karti hue dikhi. Mahinder Kaur ji ko toh main janti bhi nahin. Kya drama chalaya hai tum logon ne? Stop this right now. (Oh Karan Johar’s pet. The dadi who was protesting at Shaheen Bagh for citizenship, that same Bilkis Bano dadi ji was also seen protesting for farmers. I don’t know who is Mahinder Kaur Ji. What is this drama?),” Ranaut said in response.
Diljit Dosanjh was not having any of this and responded to the tweet sent out by Kangana Ranaut.
“Tuneh Jitne Logon Ke Saath Film Ki Tu Un Sab Ki Paaltu Hai...? Fer To List Lambi Ho Jaegi Maalko Ki..? Eh Bollywood Wale Ni PUNJAB Wale aa .. Hikk Te Vajj Sadey. Jhooth bol kar logo ko badhkana aur emotions se khailna woh toh aap achey se janti ho (Are you a pet of whoever you have worked with? The list will be long then. This isn’t Bollywood, this is Punjab. You know how to play with people’s emotions),” he wrote.
“Oh chamche chal, tu jinki chat chat ke kaam leta hai, main unki roz bajati hoon, jayada mat uchal, main Kangana Ranaut hoon tere jaisi chamchi nahin jo jhoot boloon, maine sirf aur sirf Shaheen Baag wali protestor pe comment kiya tha, if anyone can prove otherwise I will apologise. (Oh come on you bootlicker, the ones you butter up to get work, I teach them lessons every day. Don’t get too excited. I am Kangana Ranaut, not a bootlicker like you who will lie, I only commented on Shaheen Bagh protester),” Ranaut wrote in response.
Responding to Ranaut’s tweet, Dosanjh went on to write that despite being a woman herself, the actress had spoken about another woman in a derogatory manner and that she had stirred up a hornet’s nest because the Punjabis consider their mothers as their Gods.
“I had only commented on Shaheen Baag dadi cos they instigated riots there even that tweet was deleted almost immediately, I don’t know from where they brought another elderly lady in to the picture and now endlessly spreading lies. Vultures trying to instigate mob against a woman (sic),” Ranaut wrote in a response that was much tamer than her earlier responses.
The Whataboutery of Kangana Ranaut
Resorting to whataboutery, the Manikarnika actress steered the conversation away from the topic of farmer protests and spoke about some people who had allegedly instigated riots in Delhi leading to rivers of blood flowing through the capital. “Tujhe kya sharm aayegi, kjo kaise kaam deta hai sabko pata hai,” Kangana Ranaut said, insinuating something defamatory about Karan Johar and Diljit Dosanjh.
Refusing to be drawn into her whataboutery, the musician and actor wrote: “Gal Kehdi Ho Rahi aa Eh Ja Kidar Nu Rahi aa ..? Dimagh theek aa Tera? Gallan Na Ghumaa.. Sidha Jawab de.. Jo bhonki an Tu sadian maava Lai..Aa Ke Gal Kari Sadian Maavan Naal Jina Nu Tu 100 Rs Di Dasdi c .. Sari HEROINE Giri Kadh Den gian.. (What direction is this conversation heading to? Is your mind okay? Don’t steer the conversation in circles, be straightforward about what you barked about our mothers. Come and talk to our mothers, on whom you commented, they will drive out all of that attitude from within you).”
In Solidarity With Diljit Dosanjh
By then, Indian Boxing champion Vijender Singh, Ranjit Bawa, Ammy Virk, Gippy Grewal, Ravinder Singh, Humble the Poet, Mika Singh, Jasbir Jassi, and Jassie Gill had joined the conversation, showing their solidarity with Dosanjh and the farmers of Punjab. This massive show of unity can only be dreamt of from Bollywood celebrities who have chosen to remain silent on a range of issues plaguing the country.
Actresses Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha, Taapsee Pannu, actors Arjun Mathur, Shashank Arora, Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub, Vijay Verma, and directors Anurag Kashyap and Hansal Mehta are notable examples of Bollywood celebrities who have chosen to speak out. In a massive show of solidarity earlier this year, actress Deepika Padukone quietly stood with the students of JNU who were attacked by a mob. To date, Padukone remains the only Bollywood heavyweight who has chosen to take such a stand.
But that changed last evening when Diljit Dosanjh, an equally big Indian celebrity chose to stand up for his beliefs and gave courage to many others to do the same.
