Murderer Gets Inspired By ‘Drishyam’, Hides Girlfriend’s Dead Body
When the creators of the 2015 film, Drishyam were making the film, they would never have imagined that their reel-story would turn into a real-life crime story. The 2015 film, Drishyam, stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran and is directed by Nishikant Kamat. The film did great business worldwide and was the talk of the town when it released.
In the film, Ajay Devgn plays the role of a policeman named Vijay Salgaonkar. Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta play the role of his wife Nandini and daughter Anju respectively. Nandini and Anju end up killing a man who seeks to blackmail them into giving him sexual favours. However, Vijay’s wits and his cunningness help the family evade the law despite all the hard work that Inspector General Meera Deshmukh (played by Tabu) puts into it.
Bollywood Hungama reports that a 34-year-old man named Suraj Harmalkar murdered his girlfriend in October last year and used ideas from Drishyam to hide the body.
How the Drishyam-inspired murder was carried out
Reportedly, Suraj Harmalkar was in a six-year-long relationship with Anita Mohite and Mohite’s family knew of the relationship and even approved of it. On October 21 last year, the couple went out to buy stuff for their wedding but Anita never returned home and neither did she answer any calls from her family members.
However, her family members did receive WhatsApp messages which said that she had married Suraj and the couple had moved to Vapi in Gujarat. The family did try to contact Suraj but he did not answer their queries but since the family knew him well, they reportedly didn’t bother to report the matter to the police.
However, last week, Anita’s brother managed to catch hold of Suraj in Boisar in Mumbai and the family forced him to take them to Vapi to meet Anita. Suraj managed to escape on the way and the family finally filed a police complaint against him. On being caught by the police, Suraj confessed to the crime.
Bollywood Hungama also reports that, according to the police, while Anita was insistent on a wedding, Suraj didn’t want to get married and eventually he strangled her with a belt and wrapped her corpse in plastic sheets. He proceeded to dump Anita’s dead body in the loft and hid it by constructing a wall. For the past many months, Suraj has been paying the rent and visiting the flat which houses Anita’s corpse to ensure that neighbours don’t get suspicious due to the foul smell.
During the course of the investigation, Suraj confessed that he used ideas from Drishyam to hide the body.
