“Had to film a sex scene today. My first one. I had a little anxiety going into it, but the cast and crew were so professional and easy to work with, it calmed me down immediately,” Lovato captioned the picture. “Then, I thought about how proud I am for being able to feel comfortable enough in my skin to do that. I rarely ever showed my arms before.. now I’m in this!! (Granted, it barely shows anything BUT STILL).”
“I don’t always feel good in my skin, so when I do, AND I feel sexy enough to post – I do just that! It’s important to celebrate the little wins. Yay for this random burst of body confidence and yay for awkward hilarious sex”
They have also, in recent times, been candid about their struggles with body image and disordered eating with all of the world.
“I thought the past few years was recovery from an eating disorder when it actually was just completely falling into it,” they said in an interview in 2020. “Maybe my symptoms weren’t as obvious as before, but it was definitely an eating issue.”
Lovato says they were working out thrice a day and wished someone had been there to tell them to slow down.
“I was just running myself into the ground, and I honestly think that that’s kind of what led to everything happening over the past year,” they said. “It was just me thinking I found recovery when I didn’t, and then living this kind of lie and trying to tell the world I was happy with myself, when I really wasn’t.”
Lovato also recently came out as non-binary and prefers the use of they/them pronouns.
Hungry is a comedy about a group of people with food issues, and this entire experience is quite close to issues Lovato feels strongly about.
