The Balvenie Unveils a 50-Year-Old Single Malt in India; Only One Unit To Be Available In The Country

An ultra-rare release arrives alongside two aged expressions from the Rare Marriages Collection, marking a notable moment for the Speyside distillery’s presence in the country

The Balvenie has introduced an exceptionally rare 50-year-old single malt in India, a release that will see just one bottle made available in the country. The Balvenie Fifty – First Edition is part of the distillery’s Fifty Collection and represents half a century of maturation in a European oak refill butt, filled in 1973 and selected by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie.

The whisky is drawn from a single cask, offering aromas of layered tannins, ripe berries, and leather. On the palate, it moves from toffee sweetness to citrus and oak spice. Its presentation has been developed in collaboration with Croglin, a bespoke craft workshop in Cumbria, featuring a helix structure made from seven layers of wood, each less than a tenth of a millimetre thick, set with a 14-carat gold-plated brass display.

Two other limited expressions from The Balvenie Rare Marriages Collection have also been introduced in India—the Twenty-Five and the Thirty. The Balvenie Thirty is a combination of Traditional American and European oak casks, resulting in a profile marked by honey, mellow oak, and candied orange peel. It is packaged in a cylindrical case made from goat leather, with debossed patterns and white gold foil detailing.

The Balvenie Twenty-Five is a marriage of European and American oak casks, known for flavours of vanilla oak, crystallised ginger, and honey. Its burgundy case fades into an ombré finish, with white gold foil rings denoting each year of ageing.

Speaking about the release, Sachin Mehta, Managing Director – William Grant & Sons, India, noted that the arrival of the Fifty reflects the growing audience for collectible whiskies in the country. “India is home to an increasingly discerning community of collectors and whisky connoisseurs who value authenticity, legacy, and craftsmanship," he said. "With the unveiling of The Balvenie Fifty, we are proud to bring one of our rarest and most storied expressions to India — a market that is deeply appreciative of such timeless artistry. This marks a significant step in our long-term commitment to offering Indian consumers access to the very best of our global portfolio.”

Global Brand Ambassador Charles Metcalfe added, “The Balvenie Fifty making its debut in India is a moment of immense pride — a singular expression that captures five decades of unwavering commitment to craftsmanship. To unveil this rare bottle alongside The Balvenie Twenty-Five and Thirty further deepens our story here. Each of these expressions, while unique, is united by a dedication to traditional craft, careful maturation, and the art of marrying exceptional cask.”
