For the latest Lunar New Year, Gucci has partnered on a special collaboration with the beloved Japanese robot cat character, Doraemon.

First introduced in the 70s in a Japanese manga series written by Fujiko Fujio, Doraemon is an earless robotic cat who travels back in time to help a boy named Nobita Nobi. Since then, this robot cat has been one of the most iconic Japanese characters.

Shot by photographer Angelo Pennetta, the campaign showcases how Doraemon becomes a companion who transforms everyday activities into joyful adventures. From having breakfast to playing video games with friends or partying in the garden, the affable Doraemon in the role of an imaginary friend brings colour into people’s lives.

The Italian brand revealed Doraemon in collaboration for the Epilogue collection, as a design on ready to wear, shoes and bags. The new Doraemon x Gucci collaboration straddles the 50th anniversary of Doraemon (2020) and the 100th anniversary of Gucci (2021).

The collaborative collection features over 50 items, including jackets, shirts, coats, track pants, sneakers, shorts, a watch, sunglasses, bags, and a card case, in the Italian brand’s classic monogram pattern with Doraemon prints and accents. It also comes with its own dedicated packaging, which comprises green bags and matching swing tickets and cards, all featuring either the blue Doraemon or brown ‘ox’ Doraemon.
