Tamil film Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya Sivakumar creates history once again. The film has been selected for the 24th edition of the Shanghai Film Festival. Directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, the film has been selected under the Panorama Section of the film festival.

Rajsekar Pandian, the co-producer of the film, shared the happy news on Twitter and said, “Happy that #SooraraiPottru #PraiseTheBrave enters Panorama Section of Shanghai International Film Festival 2021.” He also attached screenshots of the list of other films that have been selected for the Shanghai Film Festival.
Soorarai Pottru released on Amazon Prime Video last year, and is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath. Gopinath had founded the budget airline Air Deccan. Besides Suriya Sivakumar, the film also stars Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu, Kavitha Ranjini and R Madhavan. Sivakuamr’s film was was the first Tamil film to release on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video after the theatres were shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film was shortlisted for the 91st Academy Awards earlier as well. The film has added another achievement to its name recently as it became the third highest-rated ‘IMDb Top 1000’. Soorarai Pottru is behind Hollywood classics The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather.
The film had to beat blockbuster classics like The Dark Knight, The Godfather: Part II, 12 Angry Men, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Pulp Fiction, Schindler’s List, Inception, Fight Club and many other movies. Suriya’s movie has an IMDb rating of 9.1.
Soorarai Pottru was also chosen amongst a list of 366 films and was nominated in the Best Picture category of the recent Academy Awards. The Suriya starrer was among the ten Indian films that were submitted under the Best Foreign Film category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards as well.
The Shanghai International Film Festival has been scheduled to take place between June 11 to June 20 this year.
