Zomato Called Out For Republic TV Ads, But Arnab Fans Threaten To Boycott If They Stop
There seems to be a weird, online tug of war going on, and popular food-delivery app Zomato seems to be caught right in the middle of it. On one side, it is being criticised for airing ads on Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV, but at the same time, Arnab fans have threatened to boycott and uninstall the app if they stop.
It all started with actress Swara Bhasker’s tweet directed at Zomato. She wrote, “Hey Zomato, I’m your regular customer.. do u plan to #DefundTheHate & pull your ads from hate espousing channels like Republic? I’m not okay with my money even indirectly funding this kind of communal bigoted hate! Pls let your consumers know.”
Hey @zomatoin @zomato @deepigoyal I’m your regular customer.. do u plan to #DefundTheHate & pull your ads from hate espousing channels like @Republic_Bharat ? I’m not okay with my money even indirectly funding this kind of communal bigoted hate! Pls let your consumers know.. https://t.co/mMacP8IawZ

Zomato were quick to respond to Bhasker’s tweet, claiming they don’t endorse anything on the channel except themselves.
Hi Swara, please note, we don’t endorse any content except our own. That being said, we are looking into this.

But this didn’t sit well with Republic TV loyalists, and soon enough, tweets with #BoycottZomato and #UninstallZomato started pouring in. Scroll through some of the tweets below:
Hey @zomatoin @zomato @deepigoyal @zomatocare this is your big moment… this is your big test… decide who is your customer base… these Chinese #UrbanNaxals or REAL INDIANS. Come on, your time starts now. We, Indians, are watching.
All those who are watching, raise your hand. https://t.co/4QtvOYOo3u

We love @republic and Arnab more than anything now . So if you are rethinking that you have to continue your advertisement on republic then we also need to reconsider our association with you . https://t.co/G1BjHOs3CL

Only idiot mind in Zomato can say this that we are looking into this. Atleast compare the both @ReallySwara and her brand image of failed 4th grade actress and @Republic_Bharat No#1 News Network. 🤣 https://t.co/VY3VXjIXaY
