India’s most prestigious style event, The Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 has already begun and this five day affair promises to redefine the future of fashion for India. The Lakmé Fashion Week features and brings together the most prominent names of the fashion industry and is organised twice, annually.

One of the most scintillating sessions at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 was the interactive session between Renzo Rosso and Sabyasachi Mukherjee, where the latter was on a mission to decode the ‘Jean Genius’, Renzo Rosso, and know about the true essence of the making of his brand ‘Diesel’.

The session began with Sabyasachi narrating Rosso’s humble beginnings as a 10 year old, when he used to market his first business with his father. Renzo’s first jeans was created in his bedroom with his mother’s machine and was sold for a mere $3. His major job, then, was to set the foundation for the brand but his high potential encouraged Adriano Goldschmied to partner with him. This eventually led to the formation of ‘Diesel’ in the year 1978. This unconventional brand name was inspired by the Diesel engine, turning it into one of the most edgy and cool names that would be recognised by the world, in the years to come.

Sabyasachi further revealed how Renzo’s hiring method was quite unconventional, where he hired people in accordance to the kind of vibe and sensation he received from them. Renzo adds that the major difficulties that he faced and dealt was with the retailers, distributors and the subsequent entrance to the USA market. On Sabyasachi’s queries about inviting investments, Renzo declared that the world majorly functions with good relations. According to him, this is one of the main reasons how things can move forward without hindrances and other issues plaguing your business.

One of the most important highlights of the show was the focus upon Renzo’s mission to support the young and talented through the ‘International Support and the Diesel Award’. This award is bestowed upon young innovators who, according to Renzo,  are the real stimulants of modern vision. The session also revealed the exceptional advertisement techniques made use of by Diesel, with a special mention of the terrific ‘Daily African’ campaign, highlighting Renzo’s simple ideology and motto ‘I am who I am because of the people with who I am’.

The fantastic session ended with Sabyasachi’s rapid fire round that was set to decode Renzo Rosso’s top favourites, adding that fun element to the show.
